How to Apply Your ACRYFIN® DIY Coating Kit
-
Before You Begin
For the best results, ensure the surface is:
Clean, dry, and free of dirt, loose coatings, mildew, and debris.
Structurally sound and ready for restoration.
At a moisture content of 15% or less (verify with a moisture meter).
Applied in temperatures between 50°F and 80°F.
Step 1 – Prime the Surface
Apply ACRYFIN® Primer evenly to the clean, dry wood surface using a sprayer or a ⅜-inch nap roller.
Allow the primer to penetrate and become tack-free (approximately 10–15 minutes) before applying the coating.
Step 2 – Mix the Coating
In a clean 5-gallon bucket, combine:
1 gallon of water-based solid color exterior stain (or the recommended ACRYFIN® color system)
1 gallon of ACRYFIN® Acrylic Polymer Resin
Mix thoroughly with a high-speed paddle mixer for approximately 30 seconds until fully blended.
Step 3 – Add the Aggregate
While mixing, slowly add 1 bag of ACRYFIN® Aggregate.
Continue mixing for 1–2 minutes, scraping the sides of the bucket as needed until the mixture is smooth, consistent, and free of dry material.
Step 4 – Apply the First Coat
Using a 1¼-inch nap roller, apply an even coat over the entire surface. Use a brush to coat edges, corners, railings, and tight spaces.
Work the coating into cracks, joints, and surface imperfections during the first coat for maximum coverage and protection.
Step 5 – Apply the Second Coat
Once the first coat is dry to the touch, apply a second coat using the same application method.
The second coat provides additional coverage, texture, and long-lasting durability.
Step 6 – Apply the UV Protective Sealer
After the coating has dried, apply a thin, even coat of ACRYFIN® Clear UV Sealer using a sprayer or ⅜-inch nap roller.
The UV sealer enhances color retention while protecting the surface from sun exposure, moisture, and everyday wear.
Curing
Allow the surface to cure for 48–72 hours before returning it to normal use.
During the curing period, keep the surface free from:
Foot traffic
Furniture
Pets
Planters and equipment
Water exposure whenever possible
Once fully cured, your restored wood surface will have a durable, slip-resistant finish designed to withstand Florida's sun, moisture, and everyday outdoor use.
